There are various variations to this dish, as it can be made using multiple vegetables. Indian pakoras can be served to guests as appetisers and go perfectly with hot beverages. Chop 3 onions in any desired shape, preferably rings and add to a bowl.
In the same bowl add coriander leaves, freshly grated ginger, chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt according to taste
Mix the ingredients using a spatula carefully, without breaking the onions
After mixing these, add the rice flour and mix thoroughly
Next add besan or gram flour and mix all the ingredients again
Ensure all onion rings are coated with rice flour, besan and all the other ingredients as well
Top them off with cumin seeds and mix one last time
In a big pan or kadai, heat oil.
To check if the oil is heated add a small piece of the batter and see if it bubbles
If there are bubbles then the oil is heated and you can then add your onion rings.
Add the well coated onion rings in the oil and deep fry till golden or slightly golden brown.
- Serve hot with a side of delicious Indian chutneys like coriander chutney or mint chutney or curd.
